Supreme Court Allows Alabama to Use GOP-Backed Congressional Map for Midterms
The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that Alabama can use its 2023 congressional map featuring one majority-Black district for the November midterm elections. The decision hands Republicans a victory. Alabama can now proceed with six Republican-leaning districts and one Democratic-leaning district. The ruling means Alabama will not be required to create a second majority-Black congressional district for the midterms. Republicans gained a pickup opportunity by removing what would have been a second Democratic-leaning seat, potentially affecting control of the House of Representatives.

Trump Abandons $1.8 Billion 'Anti-Weaponization' Fund After GOP Senate Pressure
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced Tuesday the Trump administration will abandon plans for an $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund following criticism from Republican senators. GOP lawmakers criticized the fund as a potential slush fund for President Trump to distribute money to political allies. The fund could have compensated people convicted of crimes related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Republicans opposed this provision. Top Republican lawmakers pushed back against the proposal, forcing the administration to reverse course on the Justice Department initiative.
